Quick example: SEK 20,000 net + 25% Moms = SEK 5,000 VAT = SEK 25,000 gross
SEK

25% for most services. 12% for food, hotel, restaurant meals. 6% for books, newspapers, cultural events, passenger transport.

Formula

Add Moms: Gross = Net × (1 + Rate ÷ 100)\nRemove Moms: Net = Gross ÷ (1 + Rate ÷ 100)

At 25%: Net × 1.25 = Gross; Gross ÷ 1.25 = Net. At 12%: Net × 1.12 = Gross. At 6%: Net × 1.06 = Gross. Never subtract the rate % directly from a gross price.

Worked Example

Stockholm IT consultancy — 25%:

SEK 30,000 net × 1.25 = SEK 37,500 gross (Moms: SEK 7,500)

Hotel stay — 12%:

SEK 1,680 gross ÷ 1.12 = SEK 1,500 net (Moms: SEK 180)

Common Mistakes

  • Applying Denmark's single rate to Swedish invoices. Denmark has only 25%. Sweden has three — 25%, 12%, and 6%. Swedish food is 12%, not 25%.
  • Using euros for Swedish invoices. Sweden uses SEK. Sweden is in the EU but chose to keep the krona.
  • Subtracting the rate % to remove Moms. SEK 125 − 25% = SEK 93.75. Correct: SEK 125 ÷ 1.25 = SEK 100.
