FAQ

Netherlands Business FAQs

What is the standard Dutch BTW rate?

21% (hoog tarief). The reduced rate is 9% (laag tarief) for food, water, medicine, books, newspapers, accommodation, and sports.

Is there a BTW registration threshold in the Netherlands?

No registration threshold for businesses established in the Netherlands — all taxable businesses must register with the Belastingdienst. A small business scheme (KOR) allows businesses under €20,000/year to opt out of BTW charging.

How many national feestdagen are there in the Netherlands?

The Netherlands has 10 public holidays: New Year's Day, Good Friday (many), Easter (2 days), King's Day (27 April), Liberation Day (5 May — national every year), Ascension, Whit Monday, Christmas (2 days).

What is the betaaltermijn in the Netherlands?

Under Dutch civil law (Boek 6 BW), standard B2B payment terms are 30 days unless otherwise agreed. Maximum allowed is 60 days without special agreement. Late payment interest (wettelijke handelsrente) is automatically due.

What is KOR (kleineondernemersregeling)?

The KOR is a Dutch small business BTW exemption for businesses with annual revenues under €20,000. Businesses that opt in do not charge BTW on sales and cannot deduct input BTW on purchases.

How many werkdagen are there in the Netherlands in 2026?

Approximately 252: 365 minus 104 weekend days minus ~9 national feestdagen falling on weekdays. Rotterdam port-related businesses also note that some logistics operations run 6–7 days per week.
