FAQ

France Business FAQs

What are the French TVA rates?

France has four TVA rates: 20% standard (taux normal), 10% intermediate (restaurants, passenger transport), 5.5% reduced (food, books, energy), and 2.1% super-reduced (press, certain medications).

What is the difference between HT and TTC in French invoices?

HT (Hors Taxes) is the amount excluding TVA — equivalent to net. TTC (Toutes Taxes Comprises) is the amount including TVA — equivalent to gross. French invoices must clearly show both.

How many jours fériés are there in France?

11 national public holidays: New Year's Day, Easter Monday, Labour Day, Victory in Europe Day, Ascension Thursday, Whit Monday, Bastille Day, Assumption, All Saints' Day, Armistice Day, Christmas Day. Alsace-Moselle has 2 additional holidays.

What is the délai de paiement in France?

Under Loi LME (article L441-6 Code de commerce), maximum B2B payment terms are 60 days from invoice date, or 45 days end of month. Late payment incurs statutory interest at ECB base rate + 10 percentage points, plus a €40 minimum recovery fee.

What is the difference between jours ouvrés and jours ouvrables?

Jours ouvrables: all days except Sunday and public holidays (6 days/week). Jours ouvrés: weekdays only — Monday to Friday excluding public holidays (5 days/week). Labour law uses jours ouvrables; business practice often uses jours ouvrés.

How many working days are there in France in 2026?

Approximately 252 jours ouvrés (Monday–Friday excluding 11 public holidays): 365 minus 104 weekend days minus 9 public holidays falling on weekdays (2 fall on weekends in 2026).
