Covers Uruguay's national holidays. Tourism Week (Semana de Turismo) holidays around Easter are computed for any year. Carnival dates are approximate annual overrides.
Formula
Working Days = Weekdays − National public holidays falling on weekdays
Count all Monday–Friday days in the range, then subtract Uruguayan national holidays. Semana de Turismo (Tourism Week) covers Holy Monday, Holy Thursday, and Good Friday — three weekday holidays in a single week. Uruguay does not apply a Monday-shifting rule: holidays fall on their fixed calendar date.
Worked Example
Scenario: A Montevideo supplier quotes a 10 working day window starting Monday 14 April 2025.
Semana de Turismo begins immediately: Holy Monday (14 Apr), Holy Thursday (17 Apr), and Good Friday (18 Apr) are all statutory holidays — three consecutive weekday losses at the start of the window.
10 working days + 3 Semana de Turismo holidays = 13 weekdays forward
Result: deadline falls on 30 April 2025
Semana de Turismo causes a near-complete commercial shutdown in Uruguay. Most businesses — including government offices, banks, and logistics operators — close for the full week. Budget at least 5 calendar days of zero productivity for any deadline spanning this period.
Common Mistakes
- Underestimating Semana de Turismo. Uruguay's Tourism Week (the secular name for Holy Week) is observed across Holy Monday, Holy Thursday, and Good Friday — three consecutive weekday holidays. Many international teams only expect Good Friday. The full three-day loss during Semana de Turismo is the most common planning error for Uruguayan deadlines.
- Looking for Christmas on the calendar. Uruguay officially refers to 25 December as "Día de la Familia" (Family Day). If you are cross-referencing a Uruguayan calendar or government source and searching for "Navidad" or "Christmas," you will not find it — look for Día de la Familia instead.
- Missing Epiphany (6 January). Uruguay observes Epiphany (Día de Reyes) as a public holiday on 6 January. This is uncommon in South America — most other countries do not make Epiphany a statutory holiday. It is frequently omitted from generic South American holiday calculators.
