Covers Argentina's national holidays. Easter-based holidays (Holy Thursday, Good Friday) are computed for any year. Floating trasladable holidays (San Martín Day, Columbus Day, Sovereignty Day) use nth-Monday rules. Carnival dates are from approximate tables and should be verified annually.
Formula
Working Days = Weekdays − National public holidays falling on weekdays
Count all Monday–Friday days in the range, then subtract Argentine national holidays. Trasladable holidays are calculated at their official shifted dates using nth-Monday rules. Argentina also occasionally declares 'feriados puente' (bridge holidays) by executive decree to create four-day weekends — these are not included as they vary year to year.
Worked Example
Scenario: A Buenos Aires vendor quotes a 10 working day delivery window starting Monday 21 July 2025.
Independence Day falls on Wednesday 9 July — just before the window opens. No holidays fall within 21 July through the following 10 weekdays in 2025.
10 working days, no holidays in range
Result: deadline falls on 1 August 2025
Be cautious around mid-August: General San Martín Day falls on Monday 18 August 2025 (trasladable, third Monday of August). Any window spanning that date loses one working day.
Common Mistakes
- Using the canonical date for trasladable holidays. Several Argentine holidays are officially shifted to Monday by decree — including General Güemes Day (canonically 17 June), General San Martín Day (canonically 17 August, shifted to third Monday of August), Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity (canonically 12 October, shifted to second Monday of October), and Day of National Sovereignty (canonically 20 November, shifted to fourth Monday of November). Using the original dates rather than the official shifted dates will place holidays on the wrong day.
- Missing Carnival. Argentina observes two statutory public holidays for Carnival — Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. Carnival is not a public holiday in most other South American countries and is frequently omitted from generic calculators.
- Ignoring feriados puente. The Argentine executive branch sometimes declares additional bridge holidays (feriados puente) to create four-day weekends. These are not known in advance and not included in this calculator. Check official Argentine government announcements for any year-specific bridge days.
