FAQ

UAE Business FAQs

What is the UAE VAT rate?

5% federal VAT introduced on 1 January 2018. It applies uniformly across all seven emirates — there are no additional emirate-level VAT rates.

When must a UAE business register for VAT?

Mandatory when taxable supplies exceed AED 375,000 in a 12-month period. Voluntary registration permitted from AED 187,500.

What is the UAE working week?

From January 2022, the UAE federal working week changed to Monday–Friday. Friday afternoon, Saturday, and Sunday are the official weekend. Many private sector companies and free zones followed suit.

How many public holidays are there in the UAE?

Approximately 14–15 days per year, including Islamic holidays (Eid Al Fitr, Eid Al Adha, Islamic New Year, Prophet's Birthday) which vary annually based on the lunar calendar.

What are standard payment terms in UAE?

Net 30 is common, though MENA trade often uses 45–90 day terms. Government entities may take 60–90 days. Free zone companies often transact on shorter terms.

How do I calculate CBM for UAE sea freight?

Measure outer carton dimensions in centimetres, enter them in the CBM Calculator with quantities. Jebel Ali is the main UAE port — one of the world's largest container hubs — and LCL rates vary by origin lane.
