Covers Norway's 12 public holidays. Easter-based holidays (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday/Monday, Ascension, Whit) are computed algorithmically for any year.

Formula

Working Days = Weekdays − Norwegian helligdager falling on weekdays

Count all Mon–Fri days in the range, then subtract Norwegian public holidays on weekdays. The April–May cluster (Easter + Labour Day + Constitution Day + Ascension) can remove 7–8 working days across 6 weeks.

Worked Example

Scenario: Oslo supplier quotes 20 working days from 28 Apr 2025.

Labour Day (1 May), Constitution Day (17 May), and Ascension (29 May) fall within the window.

Weekdays 28 Apr – 2 Jun: 25 • Holidays: 3 (Arbeidernes dag, Grunnlovsdag, Ascension)

Working days = 22 → need 1 more. Deadline: Tuesday 3 June 2025

Common Mistakes

  • May is the most disrupted month. Labour Day (1 May), Constitution Day (17 May), and Ascension (29 May) can all fall in May — removing up to 3 working days in a single month.
  • Constitution Day is a full public holiday. Grunnlovsdag (17 May) is Norway's national day and a statutory holiday. Offices, banks, and courts are closed.
  • Norway has Whit Monday. Unlike Sweden and Denmark (which dropped it), Norway retains Whit Monday (Andre pinsedag) as a public holiday — adding an extra day off in June.
  • Easter spans 4 days. Maundy Thursday through Easter Monday (17–21 April 2025) are all helligdager, removing 4 consecutive weekdays around Easter.
