Covers Denmark's public holidays. Easter-based holidays are computed algorithmically. Store Bededag (Prayer Day) was abolished in 2024 — it will only appear in date ranges before 2024.
Formula
Working Days = Weekdays − Danish helligdage falling on weekdays
Count all Mon–Fri days in the range, then subtract Danish public holidays on weekdays. Denmark observes both days of Easter, both days of Christmas, and both Whit days, so these periods remove multiple working days each.
Worked Example
Scenario: Copenhagen supplier needs to deliver within 10 working days from 14 Apr 2025.
Easter week: Skærtorsdag (17), Langfredag (18), Påskedag (20), 2. påskedag (21) — 4 consecutive weekday holidays.
Working days 14 Apr – 2 May: 10 days after 4 Easter holidays removed
Delivery deadline: Friday 2 May 2025
Common Mistakes
- The Easter cluster removes 4 working days. Denmark observes Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday. This removes 4 consecutive working days — more than any other European country.
- Store Bededag was abolished in 2024. The Great Prayer Day (4th Friday after Easter) was removed as a public holiday from 2024. Do not include it in 2025 calculations.
- Grundlovsdag (5 June) is not statutory. Constitution Day is widely treated as a half-day off under collective agreements but is not a statutory public holiday.
