Note on German law: In German contracts, "Werktage" (working days) often includes Saturday. "Arbeitstage" (business days) means Monday–Friday only. This calculator counts Monday–Friday business days excluding public holidays. Verify which term applies in your contract.

Count working days in Germany (Arbeitstage) between any two dates — all 9 nationwide Feiertage excluded. Accurate for German contract deadlines, Zahlungsziele, and SLA planning.

Covers Germany's 9 nationwide public holidays (bundesweite Feiertage), computed algorithmically for any year. Easter-based holidays (Good Friday, Easter Monday, Ascension, Whit Monday) move each year and are calculated with the Gregorian Easter algorithm. Germany has up to 13 additional state-level (Bundesland) holidays — including Epiphany (6 Jan in Bavaria), Corpus Christi, All Saints' Day, and Reformation Day — that are not included here. Always verify for legally binding deadlines.

Formula

Working Days = Weekdays − Nationwide public holidays falling on weekdays

Count all Monday–Friday days in the range, then subtract any of Germany's 9 nationwide public holidays that fall on those weekdays. State-specific holidays (Bundesland-Feiertage) are not included here and must be checked separately.

Worked Example

Scenario: A Berlin supplier quotes 10 working days delivery from Monday 27 April 2026.

Tag der Arbeit (Labour Day) falls on Friday 1 May 2026 — a nationwide public holiday — within the first week of the window.

10 working days + 1 national holiday = 11 weekdays forward

Result: deadline falls on 12 May 2026

If your counterpart is in Bavaria, also check Allerheiligen (1 November) and Mariä Himmelfahrt (15 August) — both are Bavarian state holidays and close offices there but not elsewhere in Germany.

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring state-level holidays. Germany has 16 federal states (Bundesländer), each with its own additional public holidays. Bavaria has the most (up to 13 extra days). A deadline calculated for Berlin may be different for Munich.
  • Overlooking the two Christmas days. Germany observes both 25 December (1. Weihnachtstag) and 26 December (2. Weihnachtstag) as nationwide public holidays, meaning the post-Christmas period loses two working days.
  • Assuming Good Friday is not a holiday. Good Friday (Karfreitag) is a nationwide public holiday in Germany, unlike in many other countries. It is one of the most strictly observed non-working days.
