Flooring Calculator
Calculate flooring material needed for your room. Includes waste allowance and box counts for standard flooring products.
Enter room dimensions and waste allowance to calculate total flooring material and box count needed.
Formula
Room Area = Length × Width | With Waste = Room Area × (1 + Waste%) | Boxes Needed = ceil(With Waste ÷ Coverage per Box)
Calculate the total room area in square feet. Add waste allowance for cuts and mistakes. Divide by box coverage to determine number of boxes needed. Always round up to ensure sufficient material.
Worked Example
Room: 12 ft × 12 ft, 10% waste allowance, 25 sq ft per box (standard laminate).
Room area = 12 × 12 = 144 sq ft
With 10% waste = 144 × 1.10 = 158.4 sq ft
Boxes needed = 158.4 ÷ 25 = 6.34, round up to 7 boxes
Total coverage = 7 × 25 = 175 sq ft
Order 7 boxes of flooring to ensure complete coverage with standard waste allowance.
